How did we get here?
Take a Leaf was created by David & Katie Wilson following their own experiences researching their ancestry. A shared passion for delving into the past that led them to realise just how exciting and rewarding it can be to know where we come from.
David and I started looking into our ancestry following a chance remark on the train about what we actually knew about our forebears. We both suddenly realised that we didn't actually know that much, and with our parents gone, we were in danger of losing forever any history to pass on to our children, and their children, and their children's children, you get the idea.
So, a quick hop onto a well known ancestry website and within a few hours we were hooked. A great grandfather and a great, great grandfather who had served as police officers in the early days of the Met, a Lancer who fought in the Indian Mutiny in 1857, a sheep rustler who narrowly avoided being hanged for his crimes and even the discovery of my own descent from King David of Scotland!
David was even spurred on to finally finish writing the book that he has spent many years working on. A history of the lives of his dad and uncle, who were taken in by Barnardo's because their mum couldn't afford to feed them and then separated when they were both still so young, destined to spend their lives on opposite sides of the world.

Family history research for the book certainly uncovered a few family secrets, and a even threw up a few more unanswered questions. The fun part there was filling in the blanks with our own version of events.
Now we want to help others find their past, uncover their own secrets and write the stories that they never even knew were theirs to write.
